Essential Questions to Kick-Start Your Social Media Cause Campaign

 

 

 

 

Let’s talk about the most effective social media strategies to support your cause. Here are some essential questions that will help us get started.


  1. Describe your cause in five or fewer sentences.
  2. What one key measurable result do you aim to achieve with the cause? How will you measure it?
  3. What is the reward for the campaign? Material? Immaterial?

Fundraising

  1. What are non-fundraising goals, if any?
  2. Describe your “donate now” campaign.
  3. Where do your donate buttons appear?
  4. How many clicks does it take to get to the “donate now” page?
  5. Are you using a crowd-source fundraising site like Kickstarter or Stay Classy?
  6. How do you support your crowd-source participants?
  7. What other funding sources support your cause?
  8. Do you have any grants for this projects? What are they?

Cause Goals

  1. What problem do you want to solve with the cause?
  2. What is your appeal? What are the various components and schedule of release?
  3. How do you plan to motivate and maintain momentum?
  4. What is the start date? End date?
  5. How will you update donors and participants on progress on goals?

Website and Social Media Outreach

  1. What specific action(s) do you want your target audience to take on your website?
  2. What specific action (s) do you want your  target audience to take on social media sites?
  3. What nonprofit social media programs do you use?
  4. Where on the website is the cause featured?
  5. Do you have a separate website for the cause? How does it link back?
  6. What social media channels do you use for the organization?
  7. Do you use their features for nonprofits?
  8. Which ones provide the most engagement?
  9. Which ones provide the most conversion?
  10. What are your greatest social media challenges?
  11. What are your most successful social media share resources?
  12. Who is your social media “voice?”

Marketing and Public Relations

  1. Are you doing any advertising, including Facebook, Linkedin, or Google ads?
  2. Do you have a marketing plan and budget for this cause?
  3. Who are your sponsors? Partners?
  4. Do you have a news schedule?
  5. Do you have a targeted media list? When was it last updated?

Volunteer Power

  1. How are you using volunteers?
  2. Do you have a social media volunteer program?
  3. How do you recruit and manage assignments?
  4. What kind of social media tasts do you assign to volunteers?
  5. How do you track their progress and obtain feedback?
  6. How are you orient and train volunteers?
  7. What are your policies for volunteers representing the voice of the organization?
  8. How do you make sure volunteers are up to date on the last social media changes?
